By more than 4-to-1, West Texas voters approve of new transmission lines.
MIDLAND, TX – Today, Power West Texas released the results of a poll of likely West Texas voters, revealing informed voters strongly favor the plan to build new transmission lines to serve the Permian Basin. The poll, which was conducted from July 23-26, found:
- 54% of informed voters support new transmission lines to the Permian Basin, while only 12% oppose. [34% neither supported or opposed or were unsure]
- 80% believe the Permian Basin is a vital economic engine essential to Texas and America’s energy security.
- 81% believe improving the reliability and resilience of the Texas power grid to accommodate current and future demand should be a top priority for regulators and the Texas Legislature.
- Overwhelming support for the transmission plan crosses party lines: 60% of Republicans support the plan vs. 14% who oppose; 45% of Independents support the plan vs. 15% who oppose; and 40% of Democrats support the plan vs. 14% who oppose.
“The results of this survey confirm informed West Texas voters strongly support building new transmission lines to a region vital to the economic future of Texas and the national security of the nation,” said John Rogers, Senior Partner and Pollster at Cygnal.
Methodology
The survey was conducted by Cygnal July 23-26 among 500 likely general election voters in West Texas. It has a margin of error of ±4.38%. Known registered voters were interviewed via live phones and SMS. This survey was weighted to a likely general election universe. Markets surveyed include Abilene-Sweetwater, Lubbock, Odessa-Midland, and San Angelo.
